Run for your life...?

Everyone loves a good Zombie movie (think Zombieland) and thinks that should they be in the same situation that they would prevail and not have their brains or whatever eaten.

Recently here in the good old Midwest a few of those people were able to see if they could actually hack the challenge or if they would get hacked, when they participated in a 5K Zombie Run (~3 miles for those of you who don't do metric) Article on Yahoo Though the course is only 5 K most people that complete it go further than that as it’s not a track race like most marathons are, it’s an obstacle course.

Though I did not participate I have to admit it sounds like a lot of fun. I could see it now...
Running trying to protect my 3 life flags from the flesh eating creatures that pursue me. My life is short lived though as years of non-exercise and asthma take their toll. I succumb to the heat, pain and lack of air long before a zombie nears.
...hmm, perhaps I need to work on a few things before I even dream of trying this.

So how does one prepare for Zombies to overtake all of humanity? You can download a specialized game to your iphone, ipod or droid device and get training. Zombies, Run is a game, but it’s also a fun way to work out. According to the reviews and summary here is what I understand, the end of the world is near. Somehow you survive and must help your fellow survivors by getting necessary equipment.  You do this by actually running (this is not a game you play sitting on the couch), the longer and faster you run the more perks you get, these perks are announce to you via headphones as you get them. After reaching your Base you apparently decide how to use these supplies, which will affect the other survivors and your base. Sounds like fun to me (slightly kidding, but not really), but for $7.99 I am still on the fence on if I really, really would use this. I'll let you know what I decide, but I would love some input if it’s an app that you have tried. :)

If you are interested in seeing if you would survive here is just one of the sites that hosts these types of events, Run For Your Lives, though I am sure there are plenty more out there if you look.

EDIT 7-16-12: Ok over the weekend I broke down and downloaded Zombies, Run. I have to admit that I pushed myself to keep running, jogging and walking longer and harder than I would have previously. I get excited with every item picked up and even wanted to run muliple times. I did over 5 miles yesterday if you totaled up my running. Woo Hoo!
