Conversations with myself

Everyone says that talking to yourself is ok as long as you don’t answer yourself, but we all do it. To those of you who are saying “I don’t talk to myself” stop for just a few seconds…. (one, two, three…) Ok how many of you just said, “ok yeah I guess I do” ?   My guess is most of you.

Well, I have found one example of when talking to yourself is not something that is worthy of sending you to the crazy house.

Jeramiah, a 32 year old man, sits and watches a video of himself at age 12. He seems to have a conversation about his life with his younger self that is both educational and funny. (Link to video.) Go and watch it, it’s only 3 minutes long but worth it. I’ll wait…

… Well what did you think? It made me think of what I would say if I had a chance to talk to either my younger or older self. So here is a short list of potential things I would like to make sure that I addressed.

To my younger self:

  1.  Middle school and high school boys are immature and stupid, don't expect much more out of college boys though.
  2. Don't be in a hurry to grow up, once you do you can't go back. As of right now time travel is not possible, but I will be sure to ask older self when I see her if its available in the future.
  3. Don't let others live vicariously through you. Be your own person it will ultimately make you a happier and better person.
  4. Money does not grow on trees (it’s mostly cotton so it grows in fields). In any case only spend what you need to and you will be happy later. Or find yourself a sugar daddy and buy whatever the hell you want.

To my older self:
1.      Is time travel possible? Both younger self and current self (still younger self to you) are wondering... so can you let me know?
2.      I assume that the Mayan's were incorrect and that the apocalypse has not occurred. However, if I am wrong then I hope that we and our loved ones are not zombies.
3.      Was the 2nd and 3rd Hunger Games films any good? The first one was good, but not great in comparison to the books. But what movie is really as good as the book that it’s based on? Really, I can't seem to find one...
4.      Remember that nothing lasts forever, be sure to appreciate the time you have with the ones you love while you still can.

So what advice or questions would you pose to yourself?

Karma

I know it's been a long time since I posted. My only excuse is that I was busy living my life instead of documenting it.

Besides who honestly reads this thing? (humming the Jeopardy theme and waiting for someone to answer or raise their hand)

No takers? Didn’t really think so, so it's ok.

In any case I think today's subject will be Karma. Perhaps I have been watching to much "My Name is Earl" (which is a fantastic show btw), but sometimes it seems that Karma is a legit force.

Before I continue here are some definitions for you all.

karma - (Hinduism and Buddhism) the effects of a person's actions that determine his destiny in his next incarnation.

Earl's karma - do good things and good things will happen, do bad things and bad things will happen to you.

I general I think that I have been a decent person, though I am sure that sometimes the scales tip in favor of good and others for bad, but there always has to be darkness to show how bright the light is and vice versa.

Dark- War, murder, burglary, pain and hatred.

Light- forgiveness, love, sharing, compassion and charity.

Now I don't think people should get things handed to them, but those who work hard and are kindred spirits should have some type of reward. In a time like ours where there seems to be more darkness present than there is light, can the goodness somehow prevail and drive away the shadows?

In "My Name is Earl" Earl was a bad guy with bad luck, until some crazy circumstances guided him to Karma and helped him re-evaluate his life. He makes a list of all the bad things that he has done to others and starts by helping those that he has harmed, in hopes that by doing good that good things will happen. Hilarity follows

So I have decided to make a short list of somethings I have done that I would like to make up for:

  1. Convince my younger sisters that they were adopted. - They were not, though I have several friends who were. In any case it doesn't mean they are loved any less.  Must now convince them that their "real families" are not gypsies, tramps or thieves.
  2. Promise bodily harm to the boys that dated my younger sisters and hurt them emotionally... without following through.  Must get a list of their names and current addresses so that I can follow through. I hate breaking a promise.
  3. Accept the stupid men that my friends date... and eventually sometimes marry without telling them that they could do better. In most cases they have figured it out, but in some they had to learn the hard way. In any case they are free of these tools now, but must remember to show them the truth in the future if necessary. Man bashing these guys with them and maybe some wine or chocolate should be suffecient retribution.

I am sure doing these things will make me a better person and thus life will reward me.

In any case I hope that karma exists and prevails (but only if I am deemed to be good) if not in all facets of life then at least in the major ones.
